How to Build a Winery Patio in 10 Easy Steps
Who doesn’t love a good project? Having just planted 400 or so grapevines in late spring of 2020, and facing the challenge of opening in a pandemic-stricken world, we decided it was necessary to extend our patio to be more accommodating for outdoor seating.
The posts are for the 11th and maybe most difficult step: hanging the giant shades from the posts. If you don’t want to hang shades, you can forego the posts and shades.
Step 1
Dig some holes for posts
Because after planting all the grapevines your muscles should be nice and warmed up.
Step 2
Dig a trench and watch someone do a nice yoga pose
Because you will be plenty sore from the trench digging with your trusty shovel and watching someone do yoga helps
Step 3
Apply Band-Aid
Because you will need it after digging a massive trench with your trusty shovel
Step 4
Invite friends over to “enjoy some wine”
Because they might not show up if you say it is actually to set up posts in the holes you dug back in Step 1
Step 5
Mix concrete and set in the posts
Because you don’t want your posts to fall down and have to re-dig the silly holes or re-pick up the silly posts
Step 6
Set a barrier into the “Trench of Pain”
Because you don’t want your future rocks to roll away. You will remember from Step 2 why its called the “trench of pain”
Step 7
Spread some rocks around
Because everyone likes rocks and you get to use a rake instead of a shovel. Same muscles, different blisters
Step 8
Prep some decorations
Because you want it to look pretty.
Step 9
Put your decorations and tables in place
Because as much as everyone likes rocks, no one wants to sit on them and plants are lovely to look at. (You can also look at the 3,000+ grapevines if you get bored of the rosemary)
Step 10
Invite everyone to your new patio!
Because when you dig your way through the trench of pain, lift all the posts, mix the concrete, and rake the rocks.. You want to share it with your friends! (Any that you have left after they help with the project)
BONUS
Grab some cinder blocks and small posts for a quick fire pit bench
Because it looks cool and is easy to assemble
